Marie Lavoisier (1758-1836)
Marie Lavoisier married the great chemist Antoine Lavoisier when she was only 14 years old. She was his laboratory assistant and she transcribed and translated his chemistry textbooks. Was Marie Lavoisier's assistant or collaborator? The question is addressed by some historians of science. Marie's husband and father were beheaded at the guillotine in 1794. Although Marie circulated among the rich and famous in Paris, she was lonely and met and married the famous physicist Count Rumford. The marriage did not last.
